Augusta (CSRA) Project Healing Waters

Fly Fishing Outing

Friday, September 26th, 2014 -- 12:00 - 4:00 PM

The Augusta/CSRA Project Healing Waters will offer a fly fishing outing for the Fort Gordon Warrior Transition Unit on Friday, September 26th.

The location is the

                            McDuffie Public Fishing Area
                            4695 Fish Hatchery Road
                            Dearing, Georgia 30808
                            (706) 595-1684

                            http://www.georgiawildlife.com/PFA/McDuffie

Scroll down on the above web page, for a link to a PDF file (brochure) that details the location, hours, rules and requirements.

Note that anyone entering the park needs to have a Georgia Outdoor Rec Pass (GORP) or equivalent hunting or fishing license whether you plan to fish or not.  If you plan to fish then you need a fishing license.  Note the link to purchase a license or pass on the same web page.

We need volunteer guides to help wounded warriors fish with popping bugs graciously provided by the Cabelas Outpost in Augusta.  Guides might want to bring their nets, vests and gear to help participants tie on flies and land fish.  Fishing will be from shore and no boats or wading is planned.  I would like to have pliers on hand and everyone wearing sunglasses or safety glasses since this will be the first time some participants will be casting a hook.  Barbs can be pressed down as well.

We need admin folks to help with the sign in sheet, hold harmless agreements, media release, etc for everybody. Fly Fishing and Casting experience not required!

The event starts at Noon, therefore, lunch will not be provided.  You are welcome to bring your own lunch.  Feel free to bring water and extra snacks to share.

If you would like to volunteer, please contact the PHW Program Lead, Mr. Justin Walter via e-mail at augustaphwff@gmail.com
